Chipped Tooth Repair

How to fix a chipped or broken tooth

Even though tooth enamel is one of the strongest materials in the human body, it still can break if you bite down on something very hard. A tooth that has decay or large fillings is more likely to break.

Call us as soon as possible if your tooth has been broken, chipped, or fractured. We'll get you in right away to assess the extent of the damage. Don't wait! Broken teeth never get better by themselves and may become worse over time. If you wait too long, you could lose tooth.

Treatment Options

  • Dental Filling

We can use a composite filling (white) to repair a small part of your enamel. Our custom-matched fillings match your tooth color so the damage won't be noticeable. The fillings adhere to the teeth using strong bonding agents  and then are cured by a special light. Fillings are durable in many cases. The smaller the filling is, the longer the filling will last. Large fillings placed in areas of high impact (such as the edges of your teeth) are more likely to fail.

  • Dental Cap or Crown

We can use a dental cap to repair a tooth that has been damaged by trauma, decay, or grinding. Crowns are made from porcelain materials and are custom-made to match the color and aesthetic of your original tooth. They look exactly like your original tooth. The crown "caps" or covers the whole tooth. This reinforces and strengthens the tooth. A crown can last for a long time if the nerve isn't damaged by decay or fracture. They can last for a lifetime if they are designed and cleaned properly.

A crown is usually done in two visits. After viewing an x-ray the dentist will prepare the tooth to receive a crown. He or she will take an impression, and create a temporary crown. You can wear this for a couple of weeks until the lab makes the final crown.

    CEREC 3-D technology

Digital technology is used to make the impression. This allows us to mill your crown and fabricate it on the same day of your appointment. CEREC 3D grants us independence from third-party labs, although we still use them for some situations.

  • Dental Veneers

A dental veneer looks like a crown, but it only covers the visible part of the tooth. It is thinner than a crown and requires less preparation. Veneers can be made in the same way as crowns. Dental veneers can also be used to enhance your smile. Veneers can be used to whiten teeth permanently, close gaps, or change the position of teeth. Many celebrities and patients choose veneers to improve their smiles.

  • Root Canal Therapy

A root canal is required if a chip, crack or other damage exposes the tooth's nerve. You will need a root canal if your tooth hurts or changes color. If a nerve has been exposed, the root canal treatment must be used to remove it. This will prevent an abscess.

The root canal procedure involves removing the nerve inside the tooth and shaping the canals. They are then disinfected, Filled with a Gutta percha, which is like a rubbery substance, we can save your tooth this way. You will usually need a crown after a root canal because the teeth treated with a root canal are weaker.

The idea that root canals are painful is untrue. A root canal is a relatively simple procedure. This is not true when the patient waits until it is very painful. It is harder to numb a tooth in these cases, and the patient.
