A broken tooth may result from an impact injury or when a fragile tooth finally breaks. A broken tooth can cause significant pain but sometimes there’s an additional problem. If a visible tooth breaks just before a wedding or important meeting, you need help to get it fixed right away. In most cases, we can make your tooth look as good as new in just one fast visit.

A tooth that loses a filling or crown is usually quite sensitive to heat, cold or pressure. We can quickly replace a filling with clean, tooth-colored filling and alleviate your discomfort. If you lose a crown, we can provide you with a temporary one made in our own lab and schedule you to return for your permanent crown.

These two similar treatments can provide relief from the kind of toothache that results when bacteria reach the soft inner parts of a tooth. A root canal involves cleaning out soft, live tooth tissue called the “pulp.” This pulp fills a small section near the top of the tooth and reaches all the way to the bottom of each root. The channels filled by pulp are called “canals.” In a root canal, these canals are cleaned all the way down to the root. The canal is filled with sterile material and the tooth is then closed.

In a pulpotomy, Dr. Murphy will access just the small pulp section near the top of the tooth. Removing the pulp from this area is often enough to relieve the pain of an infected tooth. Most patients will then be sent home with a prescription for antibiotics to address the infection until they can be scheduled to return.

These procedures might be needed after an accident damages both teeth and mouth. By repairing the damage quickly, we can help you get on the road to healing and alleviate your pain.
